ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention is concerned with a process for the production of poly-alpha-olefin fibrous gels, which comprises polymerizing an alpha-olefin in the presence of a catalytic system consisting of an aluminium compound having the general formula AlRxX3-x wherein R is an aryl, alkyl or cycloalkyl radical, X is a halogen atom and 1?x?2 and of a second component selected from (a) a vanadium compound having the general formula V(NR2)4 wherein R has the aforesaid meaning, and (b) vanadium or vanadyl halogen-derivatives together with an aluminium triamine having the general formula Al(NR2)3 wherein R has the aforesaid meaning, the polymerization reaction being carried out at a temperature ranging from -30 to +120°C and at a pressure ranging from the atmospheric pressure to 150 kg/cm2 in the presence of a reaction medium selected among aliphatic, aromatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbons.
