AN IMPROVED AC SYNCHRONOUS RELUCTANCE MOTOR Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention relates to an improved rotor for an AC synchronous reluctance motor. The rotor is provided with a central shaft wherein the pull-in torque, pull-out torque, power factor and efficiency of the motor are related to the ratio of direct axis reactance to the quadrature axis reactance of the motor. The rotor has a magnet for developing a synchronous torque in response to an externally generated rotating magnetic field under conditions of rotor rotation speed equal to rotation speed of the externally generated magnetic field. The magnet is comprised of predetermined laminations of soft magnetic material interspersed with non-magnetic material. The laminations extend axially parallel to the central shaft and increase quadrature axis reluctance thereby decreasing quadrature axis reactance. As a result, the ratio of direct axis reactance to quadrature axis reactance is increased.
