ABSTRACT: The device in accordance with the inven- tion consists of interconnected disks of piezoelec- tric material, at least one disk having a ferro- electric transition temperature. A metal foil is provided between the said disks. Mutually parallel, conductive strips are provided on both outer sur- faces of the assembly thus formed. The direction of the strips on the one surface differs from that of the strips on the other surface. A generator for periodic signals which can be sequentially connec- ted to each strip on one of the surfaces of the first disk generates therein, via a piezoelectric effect, ultrasonic vibrations which are intercepted by the other disk which converts these vibrations into electric signals. These signals are amplified and carry the image to be examined.
