ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A flat strap segment is formed into a loop and ten- sioned about an article with the strap having outer and inner overlapping portions retained in a fixed position solely by a crimped seal. The outer overlapping portion of the strap has a distal end segment protruding from the crimped seal and terminating in a terminal portion. A bend is provided in the distal end segment inwardly of the terminal portion and spaced axially from the adjacent end of the crimped seal for directing the terminal portion toward a flat underlying region of the inner overlapping portion of the strap to minimize exposure of the sharp cut edge of the strap.
