ABSTRACT Apparatus is described for heating tissue and which is particularly useful for treating tumors in humans and ani- mals. An electric field is produced across two electrodes or one electrode and ground, and is passed through both the tumor and the surrounding tissue. The polarity of the electric field is varied at radio frequency. The power of the electric field is efficiently coupled into the tissue being heated. Direct current inverse feedback means enable close control of tissue temperatures.
