ABSTRACT This invention relates to compounds of formula (I): (I) Image wherein R is hydroxy, amino or halogen, R1 is hydrogen or -C.R2 where R2 is hydrogen, straight or branched chain alkyl group containing 1 to 8 carbon atoms or aryl group containing 6 or 10 carbon atoms, and n is an integer from 2 to 10. Provided are pharmaceutical compositions comprising a compound of formula (I) together with an acceptable carrier therefor, and the use of the compounds in medicine. Also provided are mcthods for the synthesis of the novel compounds. Compounds of formula (I) have good antiviral activity against several types of virus, in particular those in the Herpes family, and vaccinia.
