ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention provides an improvement in a continuous sulphite or bisulphite cooking method for pulp when the pulp is subjected to a digesting step. The improvement relates to waste liquor being withdrawn from the digester and subjected to one or more expansion steps and characterized in that a low pressure secondary vapour withdrawn from the expansion step is the only material recirculated. The invention also provides an apparatus for carrying out the above.
