ABSTRACT In order to enable high recording densities of SECAM (Registered Trade Mark) color video signals in a plurality of adjacent tracks in a record medium while avoiding chrominance component cross-talk, prior to recording the chrominance components are processed so that chrominance components in ad- jacent tracks are in frequency interleaving relationship with one another so that cross-talk can be eliminated by means of a comb filter. This is done by frequency converting the chromin- ance components with a frequency converting signal generated by an oscillator section and which changes in frequency in a pre- determined sequence. The sequential chrominance subcarrier phase shifts inherent in a SECAM signal are simultaneously cancelled by means of a circuit in this connection an injection locked oscillator is provided with an output from a phase modu- lator which is used to frequency shift one of the chrominance subcarriers so that the oscillator can be injection locked to both chrominance subcarriers. In a second embodiment, the chrominance signals are interleaved by frequency conversion using a single frequency, phase modulated signal.
