SPECIFICATION Abstract of the Disclosure In the manufacture of the body portions of disposable cups and containers of nestable shape by the fabrication of blanks formed from expanded polystyrene or laminates of expanded polystyrene and paperboard, the method of preparing the edges of such body portions for the forming of rolled rims thereon in which each of such edges is briefly exposed to a stream of an indirectly heated gaseous medium immediately before it is advance to a rim-forming tool, such convective heating serving to soften the edge to make it more pliable for rimming and thereby to permit a reduction in the thickness and the outside diameter of the rim of the finished cup, elimination of the rim fuzz which was caused by prior art conductive heating steps, reduction in the incidence of unrimmed cup bodies being extracted from their holders, and reduction of the need for the removal of plastic build-up on cup machine parts.
