ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A magnetically attractable material is formed by polymerising one or more monomers in the presence of magnetically attractable solids, under conditions such that the material as formed contains free reactive groups capable of coupling directly with a reagent substance such as a protein to bind the substance to the material. In particulate form, the material is especially useful for making magnetically attractable particulate reagents for use in immunoassays.
