ABSTRACT An apparatus and method for automatically placing large plastic lids onto containers wherein the lids are dispensed individually from a magazine onto a slide with each lid being individually retained at the bottom of the slide for pickup by a container. The lid is placed on the container by a pivoted roller and a different roller is used to level the lid after it is placed on the container. The apparatus also contains means for removing the air from beneath the lid and has various sensing means to control the operation of the machine in proper sequence. In the prior art, the automatic placement of lids is generally restricted to lids of less than about 8 inches in diameter, and when lids are placed on large receptacles, it is usually performed manually. sd/?
