ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Blast furnace exhaust gases are cleansed and expanded in a treatment circuit and a portion of the exhaust gases are with- drawn from the circuit prior to a final cleansing and expansion station. The withdrawn gases are passed through an auxiliary cleansing device, wherein they undergo minimal pressure drop, and are thereafter pressurized and cooled for re-injection into the furnace for the purpose of cooling and cleaning movable components exposed to the particle laden gases within the furnace.
