INVENTION: PROCESS FOR THE POLYMERIZATION OF CYCLOOLEFINS INVENTOR: Eilert A. Ofstead Abstract of the Disclosure There is disclosed a cycloolefin methathesis process comprising polymerizing (1) an unsaturated ali- cyclic compound containing 5 carbons and one double bond in the rind and (2) polycylic non-conjugated diolefins by the use of a catalyst system comprising (a) tungsten halides and oxyhalides, (b) at least one compound such as alkylaluminum sesquihalides, dialkylaluminum halides, alkylaluminum diahlides or trialkylaluminums, (c) an alcohol, and (d) pentachlorophenol or pentabromophenol.
