ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A blood pressure system for automatically measuring systolic and diastolic pressure in a patient, the system comprising a blood pressure cuff adapted for attachment about a limb of the patient and capable of being inflated to occlude the artery of the patient's limb, a pressure chamber in fluid communication with the cuff so that, at any given time, the pressure within the chamber is substantially the same as the pressure within the cuff, a transducer for producing an electrical signal indicative of the pressure within the chamber, a signal detector for receiving a signal from the transducer to produce an error signal indicative of the difference between the actual rate of change of pressure within the chamber and the desired rate of change of pressure within the chamber, a mechanism responsive to the error signal to increase the pressure within the chamber to thereby inflate the cuff and a similar mechanism responsive to the error signal for decreasing the pressure within the chamber, thereby deflating the cuff.
