11234-1 AEROBIC/ANAEROBIC SLUDGE DIGESTION PROCESS Abstract of the Disclosure A process for digestion of sludge wherein the sludge is oxygenated in a first covered digestion zone at a temperature of from 45° to 75°C to partially reduce the biodegradable volatile suspended solids (VSS) content of the sludge. The partially stabilized sludge is anaerobically digested in a second covered digestion zone at a temperature of from 30° to 60°C to further re- duce the biodegradable VSS content of the sludge, to less than about 40% of the VSS content of the sludge intro- duced to the first digestion zone.
