ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A draw-out switchgear having an in-like vacuum circuit breaker carried on the truck which is insertable into a compartment of the switchgear; the truck carrying the breaker is inserted into the compartment and the breaker elevated into the connected position; in connected position each vacuum interrupter is enclosed in its own stationary porcelain housing which also contains the primary disconnects that feed vertically directly to the main horizontal bus and up through long porcelain insulators to outgoing compartments at the rear of the circuit breaker compartment. Included in this concept is the in-line arrangement for the vacuum inter- rupters with means associated with each interrupter for estab- lishing an electrical connection between the vacuum interrup- ter and an associated bus conductor. There are means operably connected to move the circuit breaker within the breaker compartment to effect engagement of the electrical connecting means with the associated conductors. Trip-free linkage is operable when actuated to effect a closing of the vacuum interrupters, with stored energy means being operable when released to actuate the trip-free linkage in a vacuum inter- rupter closing operation. The operator is further provided with releasable stops that are associated with the stored energy means to maintain stored energy means in a charged condition. Also provided is an opening interlock arrangement which is carried by the circuit breaker, the opening interlock being normally operable to prevent the full entry of the cir- cuit breaker into the compartment but, when actuated, will permit the entry of the circuit breaker into said compartment and in doing so effects the collapse of said trip-free linkage so that the vacuum interrupters will open if closed. An addi- tional feature of the switchgear is that the compartment which receives the vacuum interrupters is provided with a rating sensing interlock and the circuit breaker itself is provided with a rating code that is sensed by the rating interlock prior to full entry of the circuit breaker into the compart- ment. To effect the engagement of the mean for establishing an electrical connection between the vacuum interrupters and the associated bus conductors, there is provided a ball screw and nut drive connected to elevate the circuit breaker within the compartment and thereby effect the engagement of the electrical engaging means to establish an electrical continu- ity. Also included in the concept is an operator which is connected to effect the opening and closing of the vacuum interrupters with the operator, including the trip-free linkage. The opening interlock includes a bar member which is movably carried by the circuit breaker and is normally biased into a position to interfere with the full entry of the circuit breaker into the compartment.
