Abstract of the Disclosure A process is described for manufacturing containers with interior surfaces coated with a specific silicone coating that provides protection for edibles and potable beverages packaged in the containers. The containers can be fabricated from sheet metal precoated with a coating composition consisting essentially of a hydroxyl functional siloxane resin containing monomethylsiloxane units and monophenylsiloxane units, an organosilicon crosslinker with silicon-bonded alkoxy functionality, and a ketone or aldehyde solvent that facilitates the cure reaction. Containers having such a coating are also disclosed.
