VEHICLE CONSTRUCTION Abstract of the Disclosure A vehicle having a generally centrally located operator's station with an operator's seat raised above the platform of the operator's station in a rear portion thereof. An engine is mounted rearwardly of the operator's station with its crankshaft oriented in a fore and aft direction and at least a forward por- tion thereof extending under the operator's seat. A propulsion pump for a hydrostatic transmission is secured to a rear portion of the engine and has a drive shaft coaxial with and coupled to the crankshaft of the engine. A PTO gearbox is secured to the rear of the propulsion pump and includes an input shaft which is coaxial with and secured to the drive shaft of the propulsion pump. The PTO gearbox includes both a rearwardly extending hori- zontally oriented output shaft and a downwardly extending verti- cally oriented output shaft. The arrangement of components pro- vides a very compact tractor type vehicle in which power from the engine is delivered to both the rear traction wheels and the power take-off output shafts with a very minimum of components. The arrangement also places an appropriate portion of the weight of the necessary components of the vehicle onto the rear traction wheels to help provide good traction.
