Abstract of the Disclosure A sulfate solution of nickel or nickel and cobalt is purified to remove copper therefrom by a method which entails cementation with pieces of electrochemically active nickel. Ferrous iron is removed from the solution by oxidizing it in the presence of a predetermined amount of dissolved copper and co-precipitating all of the iron with some of the copper prior to the cementation operation.
