ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hollow construction block element having at least one clearance area and one locking boss is provided. The element has a generally rectangular body with two longitudinal outer walls and two perpendicular transverse outer walls. The top side of the block is substantially flat and the lower side of the block is provided with at least one, and preferably a plurality, of downwardly extending locking bosses. The block also preferably includes at least one inner chamber partition which runs generally parallel to the outer transverse walls to define a plurality of hollow chambers which extend through the block and are open at both sides of the block element to form the clearance areas. The spacing of these clearance areas is provided so that they can receive spaced apart locking bosses to securely connect adjacent elements. additionally, a special corner block can De formed having two pairs of locking bosses located on its transverse walls which have different spacings across the transverse direction of the unit.
