ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electromagnetic wave sensor detects nuclear detonations occurring within a range of possible danger from "fallout" radioactive particles (about 10 to 100 miles). An output signal indicative of a nuclear detonation is produced only if four conditions are all satisfied These conditions are: (1) a threshold detector indicates an incoming signal exceeds a preset threshold level, (2) a rise time discriminator indicates the incoming signal reaches its peak value within a time indicating a valid nuclear detonation signal, (3) a zero crossover discriminator indicates the incoming signal after reaching peak value has a zero axis crossover time indicating a valid nuclear detonation signal, and (4) a precursor discriminator indicates the incoming signal is not from a lightning stroke.
