Abstract of the Disclosure There is provided a document handler useful in a copying machine. The document handler is of a type in which sheets are moved in sequence automatically into a registered position on a work surface and then out of that position to make way for the next sheet. The document handler includes a drive surface that is engage- able with a sheet and means to automatically vary the frictional engagement between the drive surface and sheet. This may be achieved by a movable baffle which overlies the sheet receiving surface and includes an idler roller arrangement journaled in a mounting and supported from the baffle. When the baffle is raised the roller arrange- ment applies pressure to the drive surface in order that a document may be driven toward a copying area and when the baffle is lowered the pressure is released so that the document can be reversed in movement for registration.
