A B S T R A C T Slabs of gum stacked in a pivotally supported top- loaded magazine are successively fed from the bottom of the magazine by a pusher mechanism which includes at least one pusher finger supported for forward and rearward reciprocal movement between a pair of adjacent guide plates. The forward portion of the pusher finger is disposed between the guide plates and below the upper surfaces of the plates when the pusher finger is retracted to its rearward position so that the upper surfaces of the guides plates define the bottom of the magazine, The rear portion of the pusher finger is dis- posed above the upper surfaces of the guide plates and defines the bottom of the magazine when the pusher finger is advanced to its forward position. A forwardly facing abutment surface on the pusher finger at the junction between its forward and rear portions engages each successive slab to feed it from the magazine, Another forwardly facing abutment surface at the forward end of the pusher finger engages and further advances each successive slab fed from the magazine.
