Abstract of the Disclosure N-Chlorophthalimide is prepared by a novel process which comprises contacting an alkali metal salt of phthal- imide with chlorine under substantially non-aqueous conditions in the presence of a halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent at a temperature from -10°C. to +40°C.
