ABSTRACT Substituted benzyl ethers and thioethers of the general formula:- Image wherein X represents an oxygen or sulphur atom; Z represents an oxygen atom or a methylene group; R1 represents a halogen atom or an optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl or aryl group and R2 represents a halogen atom or an alkyl group, or R1 and R2 together with the carbon atom to which they are attached jointly represent an optionally-substituted cycloalkyl group; R3 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl group; R4 represents a hydrogen atom or a cyano or alkynyl group; R5 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl or alkoxy group; and n is 0, 1 or 2. These compounds have insecticidal, acaricidal and tickicidal activity.
