Abstract of the Disclosure Biologically active tetracyclic compounds are disclosed of the formula Image or a pharmaceutically acceptable non-toxic acid addi.tion or quaternary ammonium nitrogen oxide. R1, R2, R3, and R4 are hydrogen, hydroxy, halogen, C1-C6 alkyl, C1-C6 alkoxy, C1-C6 alkylthio, and trifluoromethyl; R5 is hy ro- gen C1-C6 alkyl or aralkyl having 7 to 10 carbon atoms; X is oxygen, sulfur, -CH2-, or -N?6 where R6 is hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl and m is 1 or 2. These compounds are of interest because of their CNS-depressant activity and excellent antihistamine and antiserotonin activities.
