ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and apparatus is disclosed for the continuous treatment of fiber material. A digester is provided with a feeding-in room disposed above one or more treatment rooms. Between the feeding-in room and first treat- ment room is a transition room of smaller cross-section. Fiber material in liquid suspension is fed into the feeding-in room and subjected to elevated temperature treatment therein. Treated material then passes through the transition room to the first treatment room which operates at a higher tempera- ture, the velocity of fiber material through the relatively constricted transi- tion room being such that the lower-temperature feeding-in room is thermally isolated from the treatment room.
