A-1 ABSTRACT OF INVENTION This case is directed to novel blowing agents of the formula: Image wherein Y is hydrogen or Image when n = 1, and Y is hydrogen when n is an integer greater than 1, Z is a methyl group or Image when n = 1, and Z is Image when n is an integer greater than 1, A is a divalent radical selected from the group consisting of alkylene radicals having 2 to 6 carbon atoms, oxydialkylene radicals having 4 to 12 carbon atoms, phenylene, tolylene, naphthylene, oxydiphenylene, oxydi- tolylene, and oxydinaphthylene, X is chlorine, bromine or iodine, and n is an integer from 1 to 100. It also covers polymeric compositions containing at least one blowing agent and a method of producing gas- expanded polymeric materials in which said blowing agents are of the formula: Image A-1 A-2 wherein Y' is hydrogen or Image when n = 1 and Y' is hydrogen when n is an integer greater than one, Z' is R' or Image when n = 1, and Z' is Image when n is an integer greater than one, R and R' are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of alkyl radicals containing 1 to 8 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl radicals containing 5 to 8 carbon atoms, and aryl, aralkyl and alkaryl radicals containing 6 to 10 carbon atoms, A is a divalent radical selected from the group consisting or alkylene radicals having 2 to 6 carbon atoms, oxydialkylene radicals having 4 to 12 carbon atoms, phenylene, tolylene, naphthylene, oxydiphenylene, oxyditolylene, and oxydinaphthylene, X is chlorine, bromine or iodine, and n is an integer from 1 to 100.
