D.G.Dalgouette et al 12-12-6-2 (Revision) Abstract of the Disclosure A termination for an optical fibre is provided wherein a body has a cylindrical outer surface, an inner bore and alignment means for locating a fibre end coaxial with the inner bore. The alignment means comprises an accurately con- centric axial bore for receiving and locating the bared end of an optical fibre, and a transparent flat protection window arranged adjacent and normal to the fibre end. The window forms a nominal aperture and a light guiding portion having a higher index of refraction than the remaining portion of the window. -6-
