ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An intake regulator suitable for use in an auto- motive internal combustion engine, selects to recirculate the exhaust-gas to an intake passage or to introduce air for dilution of the air-fuel mixture, depending on the specific operating conditions. Smooth shift between the recirculation of the exhaust-gas and the introduction of air by orifices and check valves in the pneumatic intake regulator reduces the formation of nitrogen oxides to a minimum, while keeping the impairment of fuel cost and driveability to a minimum.
