ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A polypeptide, other than somatostatin, isolatable from the pancreas of a vertebrate species and effective in lowering the concentration in the blood of glucose and insulin upon administration to hyperglycaemic, hyperinsulinaemic mice of the NZO strain, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or metal complex of said polypeptide, useful in effecting a reduction in weight or appetite of a mammal or to treat obesity, hyperglycaemia or hyperinsulinaemic pharmaceutical formulations of said polypeptide and their preparation; and the use of said polypeptide as described hereinabove.
