ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The bronzing of cigarette paper is achieved by impinging finely-divided metal or other particles suspended in an air stream against the surface desired to be bronzed and bearing an outline in wet adhesive of the desired pattern. Some of the metal particles adhere to the adhesive to provide the desired bronzing. The impinging application of the air conveyed particles is achieved by passing the air conveyed particles through the application zone in a generally spiral path while the band moves in a generally rectilinear path with the one face of the paper band intersecting the spiral path. In this way, the paper band is repeatedly engaged by the air-conveyed metal particles during the passage of the band through the application zone.
