ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A new and improved disposable wet tissue is pro- vided with superior character in terms of wet softness, wet strength, wet surface feel, water holding capacity and wet tactile properties as well as desirable bulk and wet resil- iency, The wet-laid nonwoven web material consists of a blend of kraft and rayon fibers uniquely combined with hemp fibers and high alpha cellulose pulp. A polyvinyl alcohol resin treatment imparts a water plasticized feel and strength comparable to a synthetic chamois. The resultant web material exhibits the ability to absorb water quite rapidly and to hold a weight of water equal to about 5 or 6 times the dry weight of the nonwoven material yet provides structural integrity permitting its use as a hygienic wet wipe.
