ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE X-ray pictures are recorded on a recording material and optically reproduced through a technique in which the recording material is provided in an ionization chamber filled with a gas which can be ionized by X-rays. The ionization chamber contains optically transparent upper and lower elec- trode upon the latter the recording material is located. The gas within the chamber is subjected to a high voltage by means of the electrodes. The electrically charged particles and also the secondary charges formed in the gas by X-rays are moved to the recording material under the influence of the electrical field between the electrodes. The particles and secondary charges are precipitated on the recording material as charge images and by applica- tion of a heating voltage impulse to leads connected with the lower electrode. This electrode is heated to develop thermally the charge images and to form deformation images.
