ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A fiber optical measuring device for measuring physical magnitudes comprises a transducer having a body constituting an optical modulator. The optical properties of the modulator are dependent on the mechanical forces acting on the modulator. The optical property utilized is the pressure dependency of at least one light-absorption edge of the absorption spectrum of the modulator material. Optical fibers are used for leading light into the modulator and for leading out light that has passed through the modulator.
