Abstract This invention describes novel steroidal 9,11.beta.- dihalo-[16.alpha.,17-b]-1,4-dioxanes Image wherein Z is hydrogen, hydroxy, Image , Image or halogen; X is chlorine or fluorine; A1 is -CH2-CH2-, Image , Image , Image , or Image ; R1 is hydrogen, alkyl or aryl; R2 is hydrogen or alkyl; R3 is alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl; P and Q are independent of each other and are hydrogen, methyl or halogen and the dotted lines in the 1,2 and 6,7-positions represent optional double bonds. These compounds are useful as anti-inflammatory agents.
