ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides spirolactones of the general formula (I) Image (I), in which Image stands for the grouping Image or Image , where R represents a lower alkyl radical having up to 5 carbon atoms, and Image stands for the grouping Image , Image or Image . As lower alkyl radicals there may be mentioned, more especially, methyl, ethyl and n-propyl radicals. The compounds according to the invention have valuable pharmacological properties. They are, among other things, diuretic agents of the aldosterone antagonist type, i.e. they reverse the action of desoxycorticosterone to sodium and potassium excretion.
