A B S T R A C T 7.beta.-Acylamino-7.alpha.-alkoxycephalosporins and 6.beta.-acylamino-6.alpha.-alkoxypenicillins are prepared by reacting a 7.beta.-(.alpha.'-halo or .alpha.'-hydroxy-acylamino)cephalosporin or a 6.beta.-(.alpha.'-halo or .alpha.'-hydroxy-acylamino)penicillin with an halogenating agent to give the corresponding .alpha.-halo-iminohalide, reacting this with an alkali metal alkoxide to give a 7.alpha.- or 6.alpha.-alkoxyketeneimine and/or a dialkoxyimino compound and reacting the product with water and, where a dialkoxyimino compound is present, with a halo-silane or an acid.
