ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is provided for improving the stability of bisphenols under melt or distillation conditions by employing an aromatic anhydride such as phthalic anhydride as a stabilizing agent. A reduction is effected in the rate of formation of phenoi and other cracking products which are decomposition by-products of the bisphenol.
