SLIDE MECHANISM FOR EXPANDABLE BIT SCREW HOLDING SCREWDRIVER Abstract of the Disclosure A slide mechanism for an expandable bit screw holding screwdriver comprising an elongated, twisted, two-piece, split shank having a handle end and a diverging outer screwdriver blade end, and a coaxially mounted slide, are disclosed. The intermediate outer surfaces of the split shank form flats that coact with spaced apertures formed in the slide. The spaced apertures are rotated with respect to one another and cause the diverging outer end of the twisted split shank to compress and thicken the blade of the screwdriver, when the slide is longitudinally moved from the handle end toward the blade end. The cross-sectional configurations of the twisted split shank and the spaced apertures can take on a variety of shapes. A stop mechanism prevents the slide from sliding off of the blade end. Preferably, the blades diverse outwardly in the direction reverse from the direction of twist. Moreover, the tip of the blade end is V-shaped or concave inwardly.
