Abstract of the Disclosure A process for electrodeposition of iron battery active mass which involves cathodically depositing material from an aqueous electrolyte containing iron in the trivalent state and a soluble carboxylate such as tartrate, acetate, lactate, citrate, or oxalate. The deposition is carried out at a current density of about 10 to 1000 mA/cm2 and the electrolyte has a bulk pH of about 2 to about 4.
