20,250 PROCESS FOR PREPARING TRIS(2-CYANOETHYL)PHOSPHINE ABSTRACT Tris(2-cyanoethyl)phosphine is prepared by re- acting a mixture of acrylonitrile and a free-radical initi- ator in a pressure reactor under a 100 to 400 psi phosphine pressure within the temperature range of about 90°C to 120°C. for a period of 4 to 8 hours. The mole ratio of acrylonitrile to phosphine should be from about 2.9:1 to 3.2:1, respectively. The reaction is carried out under agitation using tris(2-cyanoethyl)phosphine as the reaction solvent.
