Abstract of the Disclosure In a structural panel having a uniform thickness but giving the appearance of having raised parallel battens separating relatively thick board portions, there are a plurality of vertical grooves which subdivide the panel into the alternating spaced nar- row and broad portions. Each vertical groove includes first and second vertical walls with a horizontal portion therebetween, form- ing the base of the groove. The narrow portions forming the battens of the panel have a horizontal surface and inclined surfaces at each end thereof. These inclined surfaces extend into the panel and are contiguous with one of the vertical walls of the grooves on either side of the narrow batten portion. The broad board por- tions are contiguous with the other vertical wall of each vertical wall of each vertical groove on either side of the broad board por- tions. The arrangement of grooves provides an aesthetically pleas- ing appearance wherein the batten portions appear of greater depth than the intermediate broad board portions, whereas in fact the panel is of uniform thickness.
