ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for producing a silanol chain-stopped diorganopolysiloxane having a viscosity of from 1,000 to 10,000,000 centerpiece at 25°C comprises contacting a cyclic polysiloxane with 100 parts per million to less than 2% by weight of water in the presence of an acidic solid catalyst such as an acid activated clay or an ion exchange resin at a temperature of about 50°C to 200°C.
