ELIAS COHEN DIGITAL TUNING SYSTEM FOR A VARACTOR TUNER EMPLOYING FEEDBACK MEANS FOR IMPROVED TUNING ACCURACY ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A tuning system for use in a communications receiver having a varactor tuner includes an alterable, non-volatile memory having a plurality of memory locations, each of which is capable of storing a data word represen- tative of a tunable frequency, a signal selector and means for selecting a memory location in accordance with the actuation of the signal selector and for sensing the data word at the selected location. A feedback loop is utilized to improve the accuracy of the tuner. The loop includes circuitry capable of sensing the frequency to which the tuner is tuned, and generating a second data word representative of the sensed frequency. The data words are compared and an error signal in accordance with the difference therebetween is generated. The tuned frequency of the tuner is varied in accordance with the error signal. Capability to vary the stored data word at the selected location is provided to permit changes in the fine tuning setting.
