ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An armature for an electrical machine having a re- placeable armature shaft, and a method of manufacturing the armature. The armature has a stack of armature laminations vented axially by means of passages, the armature laminations being located between a first and a second compression ring. A commutator is secured to the first compression ring, with the axial passages in the first compression ring being threaded. The compression rings, together with the armature laminations and commutator, are frictionally mounted on the replaceable armature shaft. The method of producing the armature includes the steps of arranging a stack of the armature laminations between first and second compression rings, the first compression ring having a commutator secured thereto, assembling the stack of armature laminations, compression rings and commutator into a unit by means of an auxiliary assembling device, and frictionally mounting the unit on an armature shaft.
