ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the treatment of an ore containing iron and/or manganese tungstates, e.g., ferberite, wolframite and huebnerite, comprising contacting the ore with an excess of hydrogen sulphide at a temperature in the range of about 700 to 1200°C. is disclosed. The tungsten disulphide formed may be separated. The process provides a method of increasing the tungsten content of the ore.
