ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Petroleum feedstocks comprising the isomeric forms of saturated C5 and C6 hydrocarbons are totally iso- merized with respect to their straight chain fraction by separating the normal from the non-normals by selective adsorption based on molecular dimensions and isomerizing the normals in contact with a zeolitic molecular sieve catalyst. The normal paraffins are separated from admix- ture with the non-normal hydrocarbons in a vapor phase non- sorbable purge process in which three fixed bed molecular sieve adsorbers are operated so that variations in the con- centration of hydrocarbon molecules in the feed to the isomerizer are kept to a minimum.
