ABSTRACT A clamping head having an axial passageway receiving a welding gun, for accurately positioning the gun over a metallic grating structure for welding the intersections of the grating members. The head includes a plurality of replaceable chamfered dams which resiliently engage the corners formed by the grating member intersections to retain the molten weld pool during solidification and improve the integrity of the weld bead.
