PROCESS FOR PRODUCING ETHYLENE FROM HIGHER HYDROCARBONS Abstract of the Disclosure A process for producing ethylene from higher hydrocarbons comprising hydropyrolyzing a hydrocarbon oil in the presence of hydrogen, rapidly heating the hydropyrolysis product and then immediately expanding such product to a pressure of less than about 3 atmospheres and a temperature in the range of about 750°C to 950°C, followed by immediate quenching of the expanded product to a temperature below about 500°C and thereafter recovering ethylene from the quenched product.
